A reasonable attempt should be made to preserve as many <br />existing trees as practicable in order to incorporate the trees into the <br />development. For each existing significant tree retained, one <br />overstory tree may be deducted from the minimum tree requirements. <br />2. Number of Plantings. The minimum number of overstory trees on <br />any given lot shall be as required below. These are minimum <br />requirements that are typically supplemented with other understory <br />trees, shrubs, flowers, and ground covers deemed appropriate for a <br />complete quality landscape treatment of a lot. <br />3. Minimum Size of Plantings. Required trees shall be of the following <br />minimum planting size: <br />4. Planting Types. Acceptable plantings shall be determined by the City <br />planting schedule. The compliment of trees fulfilling the landscaping <br />requirements shall not be less than 25% deciduous and not less than <br />25% coniferous. <br />5. Grading. Final slope grades shall not exceed 3.5:1 unless terracing of <br />retaining walls are approved. Berming for parking lots and open <br />space areas shall not exceed a slope of 3:1. <br />6. Required Ground Cover. Lawns are required for all residential <br />developments and shall be installed with either sod, seed, natural <br />ground cover, or native grasses and wild flowers in the R -1 <br />Residential District within one (1) year. Noxious weeds do not <br />constitute allowed ground cover in any district. <br />f. Lighting. <br />1. Lighting used to illuminate an off - street parking area, sign or <br />structure, shall be arranged to deflect light away from adjacent <br />residential districts or public streets. Bulbs emitting in excess of 3000 <br />lumens (150 watts) shall be directed so that the bulb is not visible <br />from off the property where the light source is located. <br />Exterior Building Materials. <br />
