- 24 - <br /> <br /> 4. The seepage pit shall be so constructed at the top as to be capable <br />of supporting the overburden of earth and any reasonable load to ~fnich it is <br />subjected. Access to the pit shall be provided by means of a manhole or <br />inspection hole equipped with a watertight cover. The seepage pit may terminate <br />in a conventional manhole top, frame and cover, but if a manhole is used, it <br />shall extend through the earth cover to a point within twelve (12) inches, but <br />no closer than six (6) inches, below finished grade. The manhole cover shall be <br />covered with at least six (6) inches of earth. The top of the seepage pit shall <br />'be not lss than twelve (12)inchs belowthe ground suface. The top shall be <br />provided with an inspection pipe of not less than four (4) inch diameter <br />extending to a point flush with finished ground level. The top of the <br />inspection pipe shall be provided with a readily removable watertight cap. <br /> <br />Subdo ~ HOLDING TANKS <br /> <br />GENERAL <br /> <br />Holding tanks may be allowed only as replacements for existing non-conforming <br />urban service area systems and only where it can conclusively be shown that a <br />standard or approved alternative system cannot be feasibly installed, or where <br />holding tanks can be demonstrated to be more economical than alternative <br />systems. <br /> <br />CONSTRUCTION <br /> <br />A holding tank shall be constructed of the s~ma materials and by the same <br />procedures as those specified for watertight septic tanks, except that there be <br />no outlet pipe. <br /> <br />ACCESS <br /> <br />A cleanout pipe of at least six (6) inches diameter shall extend to the ground <br />surface and be provided with seals to prevent odor and to exclude insects and <br />vermin. A manhole of at least twenty (20) inches in dimension shall extend to a <br />point within twelve (12) inches, but no closer than six (6) inches, below <br />finished grade. The manhole cover shall be covered with at least six (6) inches <br />of earth. <br /> <br />DEPTH OF BURY <br /> <br />The tar~.c shall be protected against floatation under highwater table <br />condit ions. <br /> <br />CAPACITY <br /> <br />For a dwelling, the size shall be two thousand (2,000) gallons or four hundred <br />(400) gallons tunes the number of bedrooms, whichever is greatest. For <br />permanent structures other than dwellings, the capacity shall be based on <br />meastuced flow rates or estimated flow rates.
