Slope. The inclination of the natural surface of the <br />land from the horizontal, usually measured in one of <br />three ways: 1) as a ratio, the horizontal distance to <br />the vertical distance; 2) as a percentage, the vertical <br />distance over the horizontal distance; and 3) by <br />degrees, measured from the horizontal to the vertical. <br /> <br />Structure. Any building (including mobile homes) or <br />appurtenance thereto, except aerial or underground <br />utility lines such as sewer, electric, telephone, tele- <br />graph or gas lines, including towers, poles, and other <br />supporting appurtenances. <br /> <br />*"Public Waters" has been changed to "Protected Water". <br /> All regulations and requirements remain the same, only <br />the names have been changed. <br /> <br />S_~bstandard Use. Any use of shorelands existing <br />prior to the date of enactment of this ordinance which <br />is permitted within the applicable zoning district but <br />does not meet the minimum lot area and length or water <br />frontage, structure setbacks, or other dimensional <br />standards of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Tree. Any woody plant that has at least one trunk <br />whose diameter 4 feet above ground is 4" or greater. <br /> <br />Variance. Any modification or variation of official <br />controls where it is determined that, because of hard- <br />ships, strict enforcement of the official controls is <br />impr act i cml. <br /> <br />Wetland. Any low area permanently or seasonally <br />covered with shallow water, including marsh, swamp, <br />bog, wet meadow, slough or intermittent lake or flood- <br />way, except any area which is 1 acre or smaller in <br />size. <br /> <br />Wetland ~Type_ S. <br /> <br /> The soil is seasonally flooded, but during <br />the growing season it is well drained. Vege- <br />tation is dependent on the duration of flood- <br />ing. Due to the nature of Type I wetlands, <br />the E~R did not identify any within the study <br />ar ea. <br /> <br />Type II. <br /> <br /> Inland Fresh Meadows. The soil usually is <br />without standing water during most of the <br />growing season, but is water logged within <br />at least a few inches of its surface.
