5. If a detailed field evaluation is deemed necessary, the City <br />Engineer shall employ the following procedures: <br /> <br />a. A preliminary soil boring shall be required in the <br /> center of the proposed individual sewage treatment <br /> system in accordance with the procedures presented <br /> in Section 170.038H hereunder. <br />b. If no limiting soil characteristics are revealed by <br /> the preliminary soil boring, either a preliminary <br /> percolation test shall be required in accordance <br /> with the procedures presented in Section 170.038H(6) <br /> or the percolation rate at the depth of the pro- <br /> posed system shall be estimated from other avail- <br /> able information. <br />c. The City Engineer shall determine preliminary treat- <br /> ment area size based upon the measured or estimated <br /> percolation rate and other criteria presented in <br /> Section 150.014. <br />d. The City Engineer shall require at least one (1) addi- <br /> tional soil boring, following procedures set forth in <br /> Section 170.038H(6), spaced equidistant across the pro- <br /> posed area noting and recording soil texture. At least <br /> one (1) boring shall be made at the bottom of the lowest <br /> proposed trench or bed elevation. Each boring shall <br /> represent no more than five hundred (500) square feet of <br /> lawn area on one soil type; a minimum of two (2) borings <br /> shall be made on each soil type. <br />e. If no limiting characteristics are foil in the addi- <br /> tional soil borings, the City Engineer shall conduct at <br /> least one (1) additional percoiation test, following the <br /> procedures set forth in Section 170.038H(6). Each test <br /> hold shall represent no more than seven hundred fifty <br /> (750) square feet of lawn area on one soil type; a mini- <br /> mum of two (2) percolation tests shall be conducted on <br /> each soil type. <br />d. Percolation rates shall be averaged by soil type. If <br /> all averages by soil type are within one-half (1/2) and <br /> sixty (60) minutes per inch, installation of a propertly <br /> designed standard system may be allowed. <br /> <br />Section 2. Effective Date <br /> <br />This ordinance becomes effective upon its passage and publication accord- <br />ing to law. <br /> <br />PASSED by the City Council this 23rd day of July, 1979. <br /> <br /> <br />
