Information Title Adopt Resolution#23-278 Approving Change Order#1 for Central Park Main Parking Lot Reconstruction, Improvement Project#23-02 Purpose/Background: Purpose: The purpose of this case is to adopt Resolution#23-278 approving Change Order#1 for Central Park Main Parking Lot Reconstruction, Improvement Project#23-02. Background: To reduce project costs,the City bid this project using recycled reclamation material as aggregate base,which was stockpiled excess from the Whispering Pines Estates Plat 3 street reconstruction project. The Whispering Pines Estates Plat 3 project was not started until after the Central Park parking lot project was let, so the stockpiled material was an estimate and not yet in-place. During construction of the parking lot,the Contractor and City became aware that the stockpiled material was not sufficient to construct the parking lot improvements, and additional material would need to be purchased. With this change order the City is compensating the Contractor for material which was supplied and hauled to the site from sources other than the City stockpile. The change order, including contractor material and trucking costs, is attached to this case. This material has already been placed, and the project is substantially complete. Staff strives to present Change Orders to the City Council before the work is completed. However, staff may sometimes authorize Change Order work without prior Council approval when a significant cost savings can be realized without sacrificing quality, when there is an emergency situation that must be promptly addressed, or when work needs to be done to avoid costly project delays. In such instances, staff strives to present the Change Order to Council for their after-the-fact approval in as timely a manner as possible. Notification: Notifications are not required with this case. Observations/Alternatives: Alternatives: Motion to adopt Resolution#23-278 approving Change Order#1 for Central Park Main Parking Lot Reconstruction, Improvement Project#23-02. Funding Source: Funding for Change Order#1 is proposed to come from Park Improvement Trust Funds and Capital Maintenance Funds. Change Order#1 increases the construction costs by$6,871.20.
