Anoka County
ADMINISTRATION
,,& Communications
December 1, 2023
Contact: Erik Thorson, Chief Communications Officer, 763-324-4612, or e-mail:
Erik.Thorson&anokacoun . mn._ov
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anoka County Board Approves Final 2024 Property Tax Levy
The Anoka County Board of Commissioners approved a 10.4 percent final property tax
levy increase at the board's Dec. 1 meeting.
Priorities for the 2024 budget include providing safe roads and eliminating congestion;
working to improve people's lives; public safety; attracting and retaining a skilled county
workforce; and providing clear, accurate and effective information to residents and county staff
about county initiatives.
The 10.4 percent was an amendment to the adopted preliminary amount, which was a
15.44 percent increase. The result of that amendment is a$7,153,154 decrease in the final certified
levy for 2024, which is now $156,688,155. To have a balanced budget for next year, the county
will take the $7,153,154 from its asset preservation fund, a resource that is normally used for
maintaining facilities and equipment but can be used for the levy.
"Commissioners and staff spent a lot of long days and nights working on this budget and
levy it was a difficult process, because we ran into a culmination of financial obstacles this
year," said Matt Look, chair, Anoka County Board of Commissioners. "The three main driving
factors to the increase in the levy were market-rate wage increases for county employees, a rise in
violent crimes and a call for more prosecutors to deal with that problem, and the substantial
increases in the rate of inflation. In terms of inflation,Anoka County is feeling the impact just like
our residents the cost to provide the services people have come to expect has gone up."
-more-
Respectful, Innovative, Fiscally Responsible
Government Center A 2100 V Avenue, Suite 700 A Anoka, MN 55303-5024 A www.anokacountymn.gov
Office: 763-324-4700 A Fax: 763-324-5490
Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer
