I I I I I I I i I I CASE # RESOLUTION TO REQUEST CONTINUANCE FOR AN INTERIM USE PERMIT FOR TEMPORARY OFFICE STRUCTURE; CASE OF AMCOR PRECAST By: Planning Consultant Jon Scalzo Background: On November 28, 1995, the City issued an interim use permit to Amcor Precast at 6640 Industry Avenue NW for the utilization of a 24' x 60' modular office structure until June 30, 1997 to complete their assessment of space needs for preparing a site plan to develop the site as a permanent location for the applicant. After determining that it was premature, because of lower than projected sales volume, to commit to developing permanent office space on the property, the applicant applied for and was granted a second interim use permit of 2 years for the use of the temporary use structure. The following items are enclosed for your review: 1. Site location map 2. Site Plan 3. Resolution for approval Observations: The applicants are requesting another interim use permit to utilize the modular office structure for a 2-year period. Amcor is presently looking for design build contractors for a 24,000 square foot manufacturing facility to be built in the year 2000 with new offices and a batch plant to be constructed in 2001. State law requires that action must be taken on an application within sixty (60) days, commencing when the City receives a completed application and applicable fees are paid. If action is not taken within sixty (60) days then the application will automatically, be considered approved. However, State law does say that a city can extend the sixty (60) day limit for an additional sixty (60) days due to the need for additional staff'review. Recommendation: .__~--~'"~ Staff recommends continuing this application until the City is able to review and adopt new text supporting the processing and applications of interim use permits. The text amendment will require recommendation by the Planning Commission and action by the City Council. Staff will be requesting a 60 day extension of the applicant's submission to allow for processing of the text amendment.
