Case #2:

Request Authorization to Enter into Contract with Architectural
Firm for Design of Fire Station #2

Fire Chief Kapler reported that the interviewing team, consisting of the Fire Chief,
Assistant Fire Chief and the City Engineer interviewed four architectural firms. The
consensus of the team was that SEH would be the best choice to design the fire station
project. Upon inquiry as to whether or not the architectural firm should be hired prior to
acquisition of land, Chief Kapler explained that the architecture would be able to
determine how much property is required for the building, septic system, etc.

Discussion ensued relating to financing. Fees will be paid from the intra-fund loan from
the Landfill Trust Fund along with the construction costs of the actual station.
Councilmember Haas Steffen suggested staff make certain that there isn't any type of
legislation that would prevent this being done in this manner.

Motion by Councilmember Haas Steffen and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman
to recommend Council accept the interview panel's recommendation to enter into a
contract agreement with SEH for architectural services for the construction of fire station
#2.

Motion carried.
