Case #2: Central Park's Community-Built Playground

Mr. Boos stated that the Northern Natural Gas Company is constructing an additional gas line in
the northern portion of Ramsey. In consideration for easements required for this new line, a
compensation agreement consisting of $27,535 in cash and site work was reviewed by City
Council on June 8, 1999. Mr. Boos explained that City Council applied these moneys to Central
Park's playground project. This would provide for a fall 1999 installation if the Commission
can secure the volunteers necessary for the play structure construction. He stated that he will
contact the approved vendor and suggest a probable date in late August for completion of the
project.

Commissioner Rolfe suggested completing the project in September.

Commissioner LaMere stated that spring 2000 might bring in more volunteers.

Mr. Boos suggested locking in the purchase of the playground equipment this year and, since
there is an additional $7,000 over what was planned, have the vendors install the base for the
playground equipment.

The Commission agreed with Mr. Boos' suggestion.

Consensus was reached by the Commission to install the playground equipment at Central Park
in spring 2000, but to secure purchase of the play equipment in 1999.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

There was none.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner Ostrum, seconded by Commissioner Johns, to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Ostmm, Johns, Asfahl, LaMere, and
Rolfe. Voting No: None. Absent: Droegemueller.

The regular Park and Recreation Commission meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nanci Libor
Recording Secretary
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.

Mark oos

Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Park and Recreation Commission/June 10, 1999
Page 3 of 3
