CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey City Council conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at the
Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.

Members Present:

Mayor Thomas Gamec
Councilmember Susan E. Anderson
Councilmember Terry Hendriksen
Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman

Also Present:

James E. Norman, City Administrator
Community Development Director Cindy Sherman
Director of Public Works Dean Kapler
Police Chief David Gustafson
City Engineer Steve Jankowski
Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Gamec called the regular meeting of the City Council to order at 7:07 p.m. and
called upon Councilmember Zimmerman to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

ANNOUNCEMENT/PRESENTATION

Mayor Gamec announced that Councilmember Natalie Haas Steffen has been appointed
by Governor Ventura to serve on the Metropolitan Council. He stated that we are happy
for her but sad to lose her on our City Council. He presented Ms. Haas Steffen with a
plaque commemorating her years of service on the Ramsey City Council. Ms. Haas
Steffen thanked Council, staff and the public.

CITIZEN INPUT

Joyce Kalstabakken, 5571 Sunwood Drive NW, Ramsey, stated that the reason she is
present at this Council meeting is because last week, she was informed of a town home
project in her area. She expressed concem about safety with the road and a bike path at
Sunwood and T.H. #47. She also expressed concern about speed and excess traffic. She
asked why there has to be a main thoroughfare through a residential area. People do not
want the increase of traffic. Ms. Kalstabakken noted a petition she had with over 400
signatures of people who are opposing the extension of Sunwood and the town homes.
With the busses picking up children at the comer of such a busy street, that is putting our
children at risk. She added that her driveway backs out onto Sunwood Drive and the City
wants to use her driveway as part of the bike path. Ms. Kalstabakken pointed out that
they live in Sunny Ponds and there are several children under the age of seven.
