CC Work Session <br />Meeting Date: 02/26/2024 <br />Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Not Applicable <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Discuss Legislative Advocacy <br />2. 2. <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Councilmember Musgrove at the February 13, 2024 Council Work Session requested a discussion to consider the <br />City of Ramsey opposing Minnesota from becoming a sanctuary state. Current legislation known as the "North <br />Star Act" would prohibit actions by a government agent for immigration enforcement purposes. On March 8, <br />2023 the Minnesota Senate introduced SF2724 with the companion bill HF2680 being introduced in the <br />Minnesota House of Representatives on March 13, 2023. No final action was taken on the bills in 2023. <br />Alternatives: <br />1. Do nothing. <br />2. Amend the adopted 2024 Legislative Priorities to include a statement regarding the stance on the proposed <br />legislation. <br />3. Adopt a resolution identifying the stance of the City on the proposed legislation. <br />4.
