A planning Committee was formed and as part of
the planning, the 25th Anniversary Committee has been organizing a parade. The parade would
take place at 4:00 p.m. on September 18, 1999, on 153rd Avenue between Alpine Park and the
north police driveway. The parade will be no longer than one and one-half hours.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that the co-chairperson from the anniversary event is on the
Council and requested to hear the history of the parade route.

Councilmember Connolly stated that initial parade route was to go down Highway #5 but that
request was denied by the County because they did not want to close Highway #5.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that the current route will cross Highway #5 anyway which
will force them to close the road.

Police Chief Gustafson stated that he was in support with the 153rd route rather than Highway #5
because he did not feel comfortable with re-routing traffic for a considerable amount of time
when another alternative was available. He explained that traffic will be stopped for short
periods of time and then let through at different intervals.

Motion by Councilmember Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to formally
approve the parade event for the City's 25th anniversary celebration.

Motion carried.
