Councilmember Connolly stated that she would like to see a maintenance plan in place to
maintain the existing parks before any more trails are built.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos explained that maintenance is taken up annually as a budget item
and does not relate to the development and funding of trails.

City Administrator Norman stated the park and recreation trail plan is not appropriate for
applying for grants, noting that they would be looking for more detailed information and that the
applications for the grants could be done in house.

Councilmember Hendriksen suggested bringing in consultants to finalize the project.

Councilmember Connolly stated they should work with the local communities on adjoining
trails.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that that would be included in the master trail plan and
would give the City an advantage.

Mayor Gamec requested scheduling a meeting with the Park and Recreation Commission.
Councilmember Connolly requested a copy of a completed master trail plan from SRF.

Mayor Gamec stated that he understands that a professional document is necessary to receive the
grants and feels the Council will need to make commitments to get the projects done.

Councilmember Zimmerman suggested discussing the item at a work session.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted that the Park and Recreation Commission strongly
recommends a master trail plan.

Mayor Gamec suggested having Mr. Cook, the Park and Recreation Chairperson, attend the
Council meeting.

Councilmember Anderson suggested having occasional meetings with the Park Commission.

Councilmember Hendriksen requested all of the current documents be presented during the work
session.

Councilmember Connolly requested a copy of the maintenance plan.

City Administrator Norman scheduled a work session for August 17, 1999, at 6:30 p.m.

City Council/August 10, 1999
