• <br />• <br />Mayor Gamec introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />#01 -12 -446 <br />RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE INCREASE OF FUNDING FOR <br />TRANSPORTATION IN MINNESOTA IF THE GAS TAX IS DEDICATED TO THE <br />ROAD SYSTEM (NORTH METRO TH 10 CORRIDOR COALITION) <br />WHEREAS, the North Metro TH 10 Corridor Coalition was established to encourage <br />and coordinate improvements to TH 10 in the membership area, and <br />WHEREAS, the improvement of TH 10 and its connecting roadways is essential to the <br />long term health, safety and welfare of the residents and travelers in the member cities, and <br />WHEREAS, the continued economic welfare and quality of life in the north metro area <br />is threatened by increasing congestion and related environmental problems, and <br />WHEREAS, the lack of adequate funding for transportation infrastructure in vestments <br />in Minnesota precludes the Coalition members from confidently planning for growth and wise <br />investments of private and public funds, and <br />WHEREAS, additional funding is needed specifically in the Coalition area for the North <br />Star Corridor, the Northwest River Crossing, the Hanson Boulevard Interchange and additional <br />through lane capacity of TH 10, as well as enhanced transit service, park and ride facilities, trails <br />and pathways. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. That the Board of Directors of the North Metro TH 10 Corridor Coalition does hearby <br />recommend and endorse the increase of funding for transportation in Minnesota by: <br />a. increase the gas tax by at least $.05 per gallon, with consideration given to use of <br />all or a portion of the additional revenues for roads <br />b. indexing the gas tax rate to increase in future years in concert with increases in <br />the Highway Construction Cost Index <br />c. including up to $200 million in General Fund Bond revenues for use in transit <br />investments, specifically including funds for the North Star Corridor <br />2. That the Coalition members do encourage and request that the members of the <br />Legislature from the member areas and that the Governor actively support and request <br />adoption of necessary Legislation and administrative action to provide for increased <br />transportation funds during the 2002 Legislative Session. <br />
