<br />Councilmember Musgrove introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #24-107 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 26, 2024 AS ARBOR DAY AND THE <br />MONTH OF MAY, 2024, AS ARBOR MONTH <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the importance of trees <br />and forests to our economy, culture, history and health; and <br />WHEREAS, trees are of great value as they aid in providing clean air and water, shade <br />and energy savings, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, wood products, and jobs, while <br />also capturing and storing carbon from the atmosphere, thereby offsetting greenhouse gas <br />emissions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many species of trees and shrubs provide critical, early spring food for <br />pollinators; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, properly planting and caring for a diverse mix of trees makes our <br />community forests more resilient by minimizing the impacts of diseases, insects, and other <br />stressors, while providing long-term community and environmental benefits; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, thoughtfully choosing, planting, and caring for a diverse mix of trees helps <br />support a more resilient community now and in the future; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey has been recognized for 32 consecutive years (through <br />2023), as a Tree City USA. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 26, 2024 as Arbor Day. <br /> <br />2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May as Arbor Month. <br /> <br />3) That the Ramsey City Council encourages all citizens to plant trees as part of Ramsey’s <br />living history, to participate in disease and pest control programs that will ensure an <br />enduring tree canopy, and collaborate with partners and volunteers to develop and <br />implement policies to plant, nurture, protect, and steward our natural diversity. <br /> <br />4) That the Ramsey City Council encourages efforts to enhance species diversity to buffer <br />against disease and/or pest outbreaks, promotes replanting native species and strategically <br />locating plantings for energy savings. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
