The Planning Commission felt the City Council has never said that. The Planning Commission
stated that they attempt to live in the framework of the code and Staff and the City Council try to
move outside of that framework, which is fine as long as the reasons are explained. The Planning
Commission feel that often times they are not.
The Planning Commission felt that the group should not worry about differences of opinion
regarding particulars of development proposals. Instead the Planning Commission and City
Council should instead communicate about the larger policy issues (i.e. wetland buffer ordinance,
density transitioning, and cluster subdivisions). The Planning Commission felt that in person
communication with the City Council works the best, with written communication as the second
choice.
Mr. Bakken wrapped up the meeting by thanking the participants and reviewing what the Planning
Commission had said during the meeting. Mr. Bakken indicated that the next steps were for him
to meet with the City Council and gather their feedback about the review process and
communications with the Planning Commission. Mr. Bakken stated that after the City Council
meeting, a joint meeting would be held to discuss all of the matters brought up.
The work session of the Planning Commission adjourned at 9:07 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Patrick Trudgeon
Community Development Director
ATTEST:
JoAnn Shaw
Community Development Secretary
Planning Commission/March 2, 2006
DRAFT
