CASE # 5

REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff

Background:

The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 and discussed the following four
cases:

CITIZEN INPUT

Jim Gronlund, resident, stated he would like to check on the status of the removal of chevrons at
169th Avenue and Neon Street.

Staff indicated this can be added to the agenda as a case at the end of the meeting.

Case #1

Consider Traffic Restriction on City Streets

Background:

Regency Ponds

Because of the need to implement the recommendation of the Committee at the earliest possible
opportunity the recommendations were presented to the City Council on June 27, 2006.
Attached to this report is the City Council case presented.

Motion to recommend to City Council that police patrol be focused to insure compliance with
the 30 mph speed limit and that the use of the speed trailer be continued, and that a temEorary all
way (three way) stop signs be Elaced at the intersections of Kamacite Street and 148 Avenue
and Kamacite Street and 147 Lane. These temporary stops signs shall be removed upon
termination of the county road closures.

Action:

City Council ratified the recommendation of the Public Works Committee on June 27th, 2006.

We/comes Road Neighborhood

This neighborhood consists of the unpaved streets west of Variolite Street, which include 163 rd
Lane, Uranimite Street, 1 64th Lane, Sapphire Street, and 1 64th Avenue. These streets provide an
east/west connection between Variolite and Ramsey Boulevard between Alpine Drive (one mile
to the south) and CR 63 (1 Y. mile to the north). Because of this unique geography this ostreet'
facilitates traffic beyond that of the use of the fronting residents. Concern has been expressed
over the use of the street by construction traffic utilizing the roadway to transport equipment and
materials between the proposed Brookfield Addition and the proposed Sweet Bay Ridge,
subdivision.

-101-
