Coun¢ilmember Peterson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 096-03-047 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ANOKA-HENNEPIN TECHNICAL COLLEGE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, ~he Anoka-Hennepin Technical College is being considered for closure <br />and/or movement of its programs to other colleges in the metro area by the Minnesota State <br />Colleges and Universities System; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, moving and/or closing the em'rent campus would make it difficult for <br />Anoka-Hennepin Technical College students to continue their education if forced to commute long <br />distances; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, with an overall student placement rate of 88 percent in their field of study at <br />Anoka-Hennepin Technical College, the business community will lose a significant source of <br />skilled workers at a time when industry is expanding in the areas; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Anoka-Hennepin Technical College adds more than $15 million to the <br />economy through its annual budget; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Anoka County and the Ramsey area is one of the fastest growing regions in <br />the State of Minnesota and has a growing need for higher education. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />l) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council urges the Minnesota State College and Universities System <br />to keep the Anoka-Hennepin Technical college at its current location and level of <br />programming, so that it can continue to serve the educational needs of the community. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That the City of Ramsey believes that closing the Anoka-Hennepin Technical College, or <br />consolidating its educational programs with other colleges in the metro area, would destroy <br />a valuable local educational resource to the students, citizens, and businesses of Ramsey. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Zimmerman and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereofi <br /> <br />Mayor Hardin <br />Councilmember Peterson <br />Councilmember Zimmerman <br />Councilmember Beahen <br />Councilmember Beyer <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br /> <br />
