Councilmember Zimmerman introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #96-09-262 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING LAWSUIT ABUSE <br />SEPTEMBER 23 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 28, 1996 <br /> <br />AWARENESS <br /> <br />WEEK <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Minnesota Lawsuit Abuse Watch will observe September 23 through <br />September 28, 1996 as "Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this organization is a grassroots, citizens group concerned about frivolous <br />litigation and its damaging effects on consumers, businesses and taxpayers in Minnesota. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Minnesota Lawsuit Abuse Watch is implementing an on-going public <br />education campaign to increase citizen awareness of the overall costs and the adverse impact of <br />lawsuit abuse on well-being of our community. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />That the City of Ramsey hereby proclaims September 23 through September 28, 1996 60 <br />be LAWSUIT ABUSE AWARENESS WEEK. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That the City of Ramsey encourages its citizens to become educated on this critical issue <br />and support Minnesota Lawsuit Abuse Watch in its efforts to increase public awareness of <br />lawsuit abuse and its effect on our community. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Beahen upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Hardin <br />Councilmember Zimmerman <br />Councilmember Beahen <br />Councilmember Beyer <br />Councilmember Peterson <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this <br />the 24th day of September, 1996. <br /> <br />~m'~Ailistra~'~ <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br /> <br />
