Councilmember Beahen introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #97-10-305 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING SUPPORT OF DESIGNATION OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AS AN AMERICAN HERITAGE RIVER WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey, with administrative offices located at 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota 55303 (Telephone: 612-427-1410), recognizes the Mississippi River as an important asset of the City, Anoka County, the Metropolitan Area, and the State of Minnesota; and WHEREAS, the Mississippi shoreline serves as the southerly border of the City; and WHEREAS, the City supports the projects and activities intended to enhance and improve the Mississippi River as a commercial, recreational, environmental and historic resource; and WHEREAS, the City seeks to strengthen its partnership with the United States Federal Government in implementing local fiver strategies and in 1997 accepted a matching grant in the amount of $20,000.00 from the National Park Service to update the local critical river corridor regulations and implement the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area Comprehensive Management Plan. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1. That the City of Ramsey hereby endorses the nomination of the Mississippi River for designation as an American Heritage River. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Beyer, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Gamec Councilmember Beahen Councilmember Beyer Councilmember Haas Steffen Councilmember Zimmerman and the following voted against the same: None and the following abstained: None
