Councilmember Beahen introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #97-10-305 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING SUPPORT OF DESIGNATION OF THE MISSISSIPPI <br />RIVER AS AN AMERICAN HERITAGE RIVER <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey, with administrative offices located at 15153 Nowthen <br />Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota 55303 (Telephone: 612-427-1410), recognizes the <br />Mississippi River as an important asset of the City, Anoka County, the Metropolitan Area, and <br />the State of Minnesota; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mississippi shoreline serves as the southerly border of the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City supports the projects and activities intended to enhance and <br />improve the Mississippi River as a commercial, recreational, environmental and historic <br />resource; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City seeks to strengthen its partnership with the United States Federal <br />Government in implementing local fiver strategies and in 1997 accepted a matching grant in the <br />amount of $20,000.00 from the National Park Service to update the local critical river corridor <br />regulations and implement the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area Comprehensive <br />Management Plan. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1. That the City of Ramsey hereby endorses the nomination of the Mississippi River for <br /> designation as an American Heritage River. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Beyer, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec <br />Councilmember Beahen <br />Councilmember Beyer <br />Councilmember Haas Steffen <br />Councilmember Zimmerman <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br /> <br />
