Councilmember Beyer introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> RESOLUTION #98-06-138 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TItE PURCHASE OF PURSUIT INTERVENTION <br />DEVICES FROM DRUG FORFEITURE FUNDS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, high speed police pursuits are becoming more common and dangerous to <br />the local community. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Ramsey Police Department would like to take action to decrease the <br />duration of these pursuits, and thus increase the safety of the community, with the purchase of <br />pursuit intervention devices. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, each pursuit intervention device has a cost of $500, or $2,500 would be <br />required to outfit the City of Ramsey's five squad cars. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the funding for such devices would be paid for with drug forfeiture funds. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these funds, which are accounted for in the Peace Officer's Special <br />Revenue Fund, are to be used exclusively for public safety expenditures. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council hereby authorizes the purchase of five pursuit intervention devices <br />at a cost of $500 each or $2,500 in total. <br /> <br />The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Beahen, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br /> Mayor Gamec <br /> Councilmember Beyer <br /> Councilmember Beahen <br /> Councilmember Haas Steffen <br /> Councilmember Zimmerman <br /> <br />and the following voted against: <br /> <br /> None <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br /> None <br /> <br /> <br />
