Couneilmember Zimmerman introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #99-04-070 A RESOLUTION DECLARING A VACANCY ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND CALLING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL THE VACANCY WHEREAS, Couneilmember Natalie Haas Steffen was elected to the City Council for a four year term commencing January 1, 1997; and WHEREAS, Councilmember Haas Steffen has submitted her written resignation from the City Council effective at noon April 22, 1999, and which written resignation has been properly filed with the clerk-administrator; and WHEREAS, pursuant to City Charter section 2.5 a vacancy on the City Council is deemed to exist upon the filing with the clerk-administrator of the written resignation; and WHEREAS, upon the City Council's declaring the vacancy to exist, such vacancy is to be filled according to Section 4.5 of the City Charter entitled "Vacancy of Municipal Elected Office". NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Ramsey as follows: That effective as of April 27, 1999, a Councilmember vacancy exists on the City Council in that Council seat to which Natalie Haas Steffen was elected for the term commencing January 1, 1997, and terminating December 31, 2000. 2. That a special municipal election is hereby called to fill the Councilmember vacancy. o That the term of the person elected to fill the Councilmember vacancy shall be from the date the person is elected and qualified through December 31, 2000, or until her/his successor is elected and qualifies. 4. That the special election shall be held on Tuesday, July 20, 1999. The polls shall be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 5. That the dates for filing for office shall be from May 18, 1999, through June 1, 1999. 6. That the Clerk-Administrator is directed to perform all other necessary State and City Charter legal requirements necessary in the conduct of this special municipal election.
