6. 15.
CC Regular Session New
Meeting Date: 08/27/2024
Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Address infrastructure needs.
Title:
Adopt Resolution#24-231 approving Change Order#3 for Halls Dover Acres Street Reconstructions,
Improvement Project#24-02
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to adopt Resolution#24-231 approving Change Order#3 for Halls Dover Acres Street
Reconstructions, Improvement Project#24-02.
Background:
Trunk Watermain Scope:
Included in the Halls Dover Acres Street Reconstructions project is the extension of approximately 1,265 lineal
feet of 12-inch trunk watermain between Potassium Street east of 157 th Lane and Sodium Way adjacent to
Sunfish Lake Boulevard. This connection is included within the 10-year Capital Improvement Program and 20240
Comprehensive Plan.
Revised Watermain Scope:
At the July 9, 2024 City Council meeting, Council adopted Resolution#24-185 approving Change Order#2 for
this project. The change order adjusted the trunk watermain route to continue the line down Sunfish Lake
Boulevard, and connect at 155th Avenue/Sodium Street. At the time of the change order, staff s understanding
was the line at 155th Avenue and Sunfish Lake Boulevard was an 8-inch line. The change order included reducing
the 12-inch trunk watermain line down to 8-inch, and making an 8-inch wet tap into the existing line. A 12-inch
line between this connection and Sodium Way would need to be considered in the future.
During construction of the work included under Change Order#2, it was discovered the existing 12-inch line,
which was thought to end at the intersection of Sodium Street and Sodium Way,remained 12-inch through the
intersection of Sunfish Lake Boulevard and 155th Avenue/Sodium Street. This was not known previously due to
the incorrect Alpine Acres as-built maps, and the reduction to 8-inches occurring under the west side of Sunfish
Lake Boulevard, before the first valve to the west. In reaction, Change Order#3 kept the trunk line 12-inches and
connected to the existing 12-inch line at 155th Avenue/Sodium Street, resulting in completion of the 12-inch
loop, with future considerations no longer being required.
Construction Impacts.
Change Order#3 includes the cost for re-stocking the 8-inch wet tap and supplying the 12-inch wet tap. In today's
manufacturing environment, watermain wet taps of this size are not kept on-hand and require special ordering to
obtain.
Notification:
Notification is not required.
Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives:
