6. 24.
CC Regular Session New
Meeting Date: 08/27/2024
Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Address infrastructure needs.
Title:
Adopt Resolution#24-233 Accepting Quotes and Awarding Contract for Improvement Project#24-59, Lift
Station No. 2 Pump Replacements
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to adopt Resolution#24-233 accepting quotes and awarding a construction contract for
Improvement Project#24-59, Lift Station No. 2 Pump Replacements.
Background:
The 2024—2033 Capital Improvement Program includes proposed project#19-SEW-003,Replace Pumps at Lift
Station No. 2,proposed for construction in 2024 at an estimated cost of$57,000.
Lift Station No. 2 is located at the intersection of 157th Avenue NW and Neon Street NW and was constructed in
1998 to serve the Apple Ridge/River Pines residential development. This sanitary sewer lift station serves all 292
homes and pumps the sewer south to the intersection of State Highway 47 and Alpine Drive. On average, the two
pumps in Lift Station No. 2 have 50 starts each day, which equals roughly 18,250 starts a year, which equals
approximately 474,500 pumping cycles since 1998.
Lift Station No. 2 has been in service for 26 years and needs upgrades to a few major components to prevent
sewer backups including replacing both pumps, base elbows, and force main pipes, all of which are internal to the
lift station. The pumps were acceptable at the time they were installed in 1998 but since the introduction of
flushable wipes these pumps are vulnerable to clogging since flushable wipes wrap up inside the pumps and trip
breakers causing call backs. The new style pumps the City of Ramsey has been installing in new and existing lift
stations has cutter heads that grind up all material flushed. Call backs for plugged up pumps have all been
eliminated in stations with these new pumps.
Two (2) quotes were solicited and received as follows;
Contractor Total Quote
,Contractor
Goetsch Associates. Inc. $541872.00
Ford Construction Co., Inc. $601969.00
Engineer's Estimate $57,000.00
The lowest responsible quote in the amount of$54,872.00 was received from WW Goetsch Associates. Inc.
Costs for this upgrade be paid from the sanitary sewer enterprise fund.
Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives:
Motion to adopt Resolution#24-233 accepting quotes and awarding a construction contract for Improvement
Project#24-59, Lift Station No. 2 Pump Replacements.
Funding Source:
