Jason Sufka— Captain
City of Ramsey Fire Department ALMSEY
jsufka@ci.ramsey.mn.us
03/08/2024
Charitable Giving
W Illy
Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community
donations@shakopeedakota.org
L/. -
Dear Charitable Giving Board, 61 FIRE
My name is Jason Sufka, and I am the Administration and Logistics Captain with the City of
Ramsey Fire Department. The City of Ramsey Fire Department (RFD) was established in 1988,
and our Mission is: The Ramsey Fire Department is dedicated to protecting life and property in
our community through emergency response, prevention and education with pride, honor and
integrity. The City of Ramsey has almost 29,000 residents over nearly 30 square miles. RFD
had 1735 calls for service in 2023, of which 65% - 70% were medical related calls.
RFD is humbly seeking SMSC's gracious funding for the replacement of our Department AEDs,
11 in total, which is key to RFD fulfilling the mission of protecting life through emergency
response. RFD is at a critical point in the operational life of our in-service AEDs, as well as
nearing or reaching the end of any available service support.
Funding for this project is essential because The City of Ramsey is currently budgeting for some
large funding projects over the next several years, to include a Waste Water Treatment Facility.
RFD is seeking $23,453.87 in funding, allowing us to continue continuity of operations as well
as provide the best Patient Care Response to Cardiac Arrest Management for the Residents,
the daily Work Force, and the Visitors of the City of Ramsey.
RFD is aware that the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has partnered with Zoll for
AED donations, but RFD is respectfully requesting that if funding is received, a consideration be
made to donate the LifePak CR2 AED. RFD uses the LifePak brand AEDs to support
interoperability with partner agencies (City of Ramsey Police and Allina EMS) as well as our
EMS Mutual Aid Partners who all use LifePak Cardiac products. RFD has LifePak AEDs to
ensure the ability for the responding EMS services to quickly plug RFD's Pads into their Monitor,
reducing the "Time to Shock" by eliminating the need for the removal of RFD Pads followed by
deployment, placement, and connection of their own Pads. RFD has found that Zoll AEDs are
priced at roughly $2,150.00 per unit, making the AEDs similarly priced. The use of the LifePak
CR2 will continue to ensure continuity of operations as well as the best Patient Care model for
response to Cardiac Arrest Management for the residents of Ramsey, the daily work force, and
the visitors of the City of Ramsey.
The City of Ramsey Fire Department is passionate about addressing this critical need for AED
replacement, because without funding RFD risks not living up our Mission of protecting life
through emergency response. RFD's again humbly thanks the SMSC for their consideration and
for providing organizations like The City of Ramsey Fire Department.
Sincerely,
[Jason Sufka— Captain RFD]
