Our review considered many items and each has a short
discussion in the attached study.

In summary, the road is not unusually hazardous. Any roadway has
inherent dangers in that both the drivers and pedestrians are
constantly making decisions and they may be careless, distracted
or make a wrong decision. This roadway has had, and will
continue to have, some accidents regardless of any improvements.
The County can, however, do two things which may have some
benefit in the area.

Number 1 _ A crosswalk can be installed across CR #56 in the area
of the Tom Thumb store.

Number 2 _ A Speed Zone Study can be conducted.

Both items can be requested by the City.

In addition, if the County installs a crosswalk, the City should
seriously consider the installation of lighting at the crosswalk
location to aid those night-time and low visibility times which
the crosswalk may be used.

No feasible improvements will eliminate accidents completely.
Caution by pedestrians and drivers, proper use of vehicle
features (turn signals, brake lights, head lights, etc.)
and proper driver and pedestrian conduct are probably some of the
most effective means to improve safety and do not cost the
residents additional money. No roadway is without accidents and
the single largest cause of accidents is human error.

Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer

.58
