oapacity. The 1-694 bridge ls aaaumed widened to 8ix lanes ln the atudy
and aaaumed metered to hold trafUo to oapacity.

An additional bridge in the aegment would provlde tor lncreased travel and
would not be over capaoity in 2000. This increaae would be predom1nantly
local travel from orlgins and deatlnatlons near the river but dlscouraged
from crossing due to oongestlon on the regional crossingS.

Bridge 11 was the aeoond worst ranked bridge in the eleven alternates that
were evaluated ln this study. In this segment, TH 610 bridge ranked as
well as alternate locations for providing turther capacity. The EIS for
the TH 610 crossing included a second span adjacent to that now in. This
makes crossing 9 a prime candidate tor additional capacity in this
aegment.

Short Range Actions:

It is aSS\lDled that the TH 610 bridge will be completed and provide the
needed cross1ng capacity for the next 15 years.

There should be strong and persistent action to secure funding needed to
complete improvements at both ends of the bridge. On the east the
connection to and 1mprovement of TH 10 is not presently prograDllled. This
is alao the status of TH 610 itself from the TH 252 connection west to
Osseo and 1-94.

1-694 should be widened as soon as feasible this will also provide the
needed capacity for the next 15 years

Periodic intergovernmental review and study of issues should continue,
especially in develop1ng a cooperative approacb to secur1ng funding for the
TH 61o-TH 10 corridor.

Long Range Actions:

Provide additional capacity in this corridor segment in the post 1997
period.

The third priority corridor sepent includes bridge location 1. This sepent
is that part of the corridor north of CR121-Armstrong Blvd. to TH 101. This
segment is between Dayton on the west side and Ramsey east of the river. The
long term increase in traffic demand across the third priority sepent is least
of all of the three segments. In the long term demand will reach capacity of
the critical location whicb is a signal on the northbound approacb.

The technical colllDittee has made the following findings regard1ng the third
priority segment and identified short and long range actioos appropriate to the
findings.

Findings:

The analYSis of future development shows a long term increase in north
south travel demand in this corridor, (23,000 dally trips in 2000) but does
not significantly exceed the capaCity of the bridge itaelf.

36

$,
