Mayor Gamec stated the Council is still interested but it is a large project. He thought the
Council wanted a Community Center to be run by the private sector.

Councihnember Elvig thought there was a desire by the Council to get this done. There is also
interest from developers. He stated if the Park Commission had discussions on this, it may bring
the Community involvement into it.

Commissioner Shryock wondered what it would take to get the private sector involved.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood indicated staff has put together a memo to propose some
names for the parks at Town Center. He reviewed some names for the parks that staff thought
fit.

Commissioner Olds thought as a common denominator for the Town Center Parks they could
name them "Town Center Commons, North Commons, etc." to indicate they are in the Town
Center.

Commissioner Shryock thought the name Rhinestone Commons for South Park sounded good.
The Commission and Council concurred.

Mayor Gamec thought the Parks Commission should name the parks and recommend them to the
Council.

Motion by Olds, Seconded by Shryock, to recommend "Commons" as the park denominator for
the Town Center Parks and to name the parks indicated in the memo from staff along with
naming South Park, Rhinestone Commons.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Olds, Shryock, Erickson,
Hansen, LaMere, and Lehman. Voting No: None. Absent: None.

Chairperson Johns wondered if they needed to make an investment in the park where the
swimming hole will be going in because there is so much housing going in the area.

Mr. Olson reviewed the plans for the park and the development going in.

Chairperson Johns wondered if a swimming area and a pool in Town Center would be competing
uses.

Mr. Olson did not think it would be. He thought this park would be a more passive use and
should have water features.

Chairperson Johns indicated she would like to have North Commons reviewed by staff because it
is happening five years earlier than they thought.

Chairperson Johns stated about a year ago there was discussion about hiring a park coordinator
and she wondered where that was at in the plans.

Park and Recreation Commission/June 8, 2006
Page 5 of 6
