<br />CASE #7 <br /> <br />REPORT FROM ROAD AND BRIDGE COMMITTEE <br />By: Pete Raatikka, city Engineer <br /> <br />The Road and Bridge Committee met at 7:00 a.m., February 9, 1988 at <br />Bob's Country Inn. Members present were Councilman Al Pearson, <br />Councilman Al Sorteberg, Public Works Supt. Merle Mevissen and myself. <br />The following items were discussed and recommendations were made for <br />council action. <br /> <br />ITEM #1: Railroad Realignment <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />This item was referred to the Road & Bridge Committee by the City <br />Council on January 26, 1988 for further review and recommendation. <br />See Case 10 of your January 26, 1988 Council Agenda. <br /> <br />RECO~NDATION: <br /> <br />The Road and Bridge Committee recommends that the project be dropped <br />unless funding from sources other than City funds can be used to <br />construct the project. The committee further recommends that city <br />staff contact the Anoka County Highway Department to review what <br />improvements can be made to County Road 83 crossing to make it a safer <br />crossing. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to: <br />Authorize City staff to meet with the Anoka County Highway Department <br />and review improvements that can be made at the time of upgrading <br />County Road 83 to improve the safety of the railroad crossing. <br /> <br />ITEM #2: Contracting out <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />At the January 12, 1988 council meeting, specifications for sewer and <br />water maintenance and landscape and grounds maintenance were presented <br />to the City Counci~ city Council referred the specifications to the <br />Road & Bridge Committee for review. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> <br />The Road & Bridge Committee recommends that the city Council pass <br />resolutions approving the specifications and setting a date for <br />receipt of proposals. Upon receipt of the proposals, the Road and <br />Bridge Committee will review the costs and compare those costs with <br />estimated costs of hiring additional maintenance personnel to perform <br />the work in-house. <br />
