5 Minutes

Case #-1L

LOWER RUM RIVER MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION
By: Pete Raatikka, City Engineer

Background:

At a recent LRRWMO meeting, the board received a request to establish
an ordinance limiting the size and/or speed of boats and motors on the
Lower Rum River. This ordinance would help to reduce erosion of the
river bank. The LRRWMO sent the request to Anoka County for
consideration of an ordinance. The County responded by saying they
would consider an ordinance if all the city councils adjacent to the
Lower Rum River were in favor of the ordinance.

Attached are copies of letters from Dan Erhart, Chairman of the Anoka
County Board of Commissioners and curtis A. Pearson, attorney for the
LRRWMO discussing this issue.

In addition to the erosion ordinance you have received copies of the
LRRWMO Water Management Plan.

Recommendation:

I would recommend that the City Council support an ordinance limiting
the size and/or speed of boats and motors on the Rum River to control
erosion.

You may wish to have a special meeting or workshop to review the
LRRWMO Water Management Plan.

council Action:

Action should be based on discussion at the Council meeting.

Review Checklist:

x

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Supt.
Other

Administrator
Attorney
Engineer
Comm.
