The
Committee feels th t the special election will attract only negative voters
because ofl the air ort issue and it will be an unfair representation of how
the communi ty reillY feel s about a volunte e r f ire de pa r tme n t . Th e
alternatives recom ended are: delete the fire department question from the
April 19 ballot. c oose another election date to include a question on the
fire department orjSOliCit a professional public opinion poll of the fire
department.

Council noted that the fire department question to be included on the April
19 ballot is advis ry and not binding; the special election is the most
cost effe~tive wJy to get a fairly reasonable indication of how the
community feels ab ut a volunteer fire department and this issue should be
brought up for fur her discussion when all councilmembers are present.

Motion by ~ouncilm mber DeLuca and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to
table further disc ssion of the report from the Fire Safety Committee until
the February 9 Cit Council meeting.

Motion carried.
Pearson.
