CASE #2

STATUS/TRENDS OF YOUTH SPORTS
By: Mark Boos, ParkslUtilities Supervisor

Background:

Each year, the City requests participation and trend information from the youth organizations that
offer sports for our residents. Primarily, it is the Ramsey Youth Athletic Association (RY AA)
that provides the majority of programs, consisting of: softball, baseball, basketball, football, T-
ball, and soccer. This year, RY AA expanded its soccer program by offering traveling soccer
under the nam Northern Lights Soccer. In addition to the above field usage, the Anoka Area
Traveling Soccer Association has used River's Bend Park for several years.

Observations:

The above requested participation and trend data are important for understanding the coming
year's maintenance supplies and labor needs. Perhaps more important at this time is comparing
the projected athletic field needs for 1999-2003 in relation to the Commission's C.I.P. request.
By the September 11, 1997 meeting, the referenced reports from the athletic associations should
be available.

Commission Action:

Based on discussion.

Reviewed by:
ParkslUtilities Supervisor

PR:9/11/97

q
