FAX: 715.341.1856

September 15, 1997

City of Anoka
Parks and Recreation Department
2015 First Avenue North
Anoka, MN 55303

Attention:

Butch Brandenburg
Director of Parks and Recreation

Subject:

Anoka Aquatic Center Water Slide

Dear Mr. Brandenburg:

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with additional information on the design
of the slide and the slide related items included In Quality Pools contract.

The landing area, which is included in Quality's contract, is capable of
accommodating any size of slide, therefore a small or large slide could be utilized.
The Minnesota code requires the same size landing area regardless of the size of
slide.

The water flow down the slide is basically the same regardless of the length of slide.
With the flow the same, the pump and piping will be the same. Therefore, there will
be no change In Quality Pools prices If a longer slide is selected.

A longer slide will be much more popular than a shorter one. I understand your
budget constraints, but I think the city should aim for as long a slide as possible.
I honestly feel a 200 foot slide should be seriously considered. I checked with
various slide manufacturers and the estimated cost for a 200 foot slide, including
all materials, installation and mechanical system, with fiberglass stairways, is
$180,000. This cost includes fiberglass stairways, which adds about $15,000 to the
cost. The fiberglass system Is an excellent, slip resistant stairway, with low
maintenance. This number does not Include engineering which would be
apP'~oximat~ly_another $14,000.

We could prepare alternate bids for 150 and 200 foot slides. The city could then
select the size slide that best meets their budget. .

I hope this information will be of help.

Very Truly Yours,

8rzE/~

Project Engineer
T AGlarw

(0
