CASE #3

PARK DIRECTION SIGNAGE
By: Mark Boos, ParkJUtilities Supervisor

Background:

During Commission input at the July Park and Recreation Commission meeting, it was noted
that some parks would benefit by having signs on thoroughfares noting their location.

The cost for each sign would be approximately $70, for the aluminum sheet portion. If the sign
could not be bolted to an existing sign, an additional $40 would be needed for the post(s). It
should be noted that signs should not be installed if they are not needed due to purchase and
installation cost, occasional maintenance or replacement, and additional clutter in the landscape.

Should the Commission desire park direction signage, their numbers and placement (and
resulting cost) could be determined after the meeting, using a City map. The expense of such a
signing initiative would likely exceed $1,000. This should either be a specific request of City
Council for 1998 or 1999 (draft 1998 operations budgets have already been submitted) or
prioritized and phased in, beginning as soon as late 1997.

A map will be available at the meeting.

Commission Action:

Based on discussion

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

ParkslUtilities Supervisor

City Administrator
Public Works Supervisor
City Engineer
Finance Officer

PC: 08/14/97

JK/shared/parks/sign814.doc

\\
