Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Asfahl, Johns, Ostrum, Droegemueller,
LaMere, and Rolfe. Voting No: None. Absent: None.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

. Status of Rivers Bend Park Improvements

Mr. Boos briefly reviewed information pertaining to Rivers Bend Park.

· Status of Alpine Park

A traffic generation analysis for Alpine Park was completed which provides estimates of the future
traffic generated by the proposed Alpine Park. Upon conduction of analysis, it has been concluded
that Alpine Park will not provide traffic impacts beyond the design of the roadway system. Located
at the intersection of two major roads, it is also not expected to have any impact within nearby
neighborhoods.

· Critical Trail Link Projects

Mr. Boos briefly reviewed information pertaining to critical trail link projects. It was noted the area
originally designated with a pond will not be developed in the business park.

. Report on Spring 1997 R Y AA activity

Commissioner Droegemueller indicated everything is progressing as planned and games will begin
the week of May 12th. There are approximately 1,200 kids enrolled which breaks down to 300 for
soccer, 600-750 tee-ball, with the remainder playing softballlbaseball. There is a noted increase in
the younger aged programs.

Discussion/explanation ensued about the different types of youth athletic programs available in the
City. Some of these programs cause a scheduling overlap which unfortunately inhibits summer
participation for some youth. Commissioner Droegemueller clarified that schedules of programs for
the fifteen and sixteen year olds work in conjunction with each other. Mr. Boos noted the need for
written notification that schedules of some programs are conflicting with each other.

Commissioner Asfahl inquired about field use/availability issues for soccer teams. Commissioner
Droegemueller indicated questionable use regarding the scheduling of fields. Mr. Boos noted the
need to ensure field use/scheduling is done appropriately.

Commissioner Johns complimented Commissioner Droegemueller on restructuring of this year's
soccer program.

Park and Recreation Commission/May 8, 1997
Page 5 of6

V\f\5
