SHORELAND ZONING
On all lakes, rivers and streams, which are large enough for recreational
use (boating, swimming, fishing, etc.), consideration should be given
to the following:
1. Preservation of all, or of a portion of, shoreland in its
natural state.
2. Provision for public access in a manner not conflicting with
careful use of privately owned shoreland.
3. Require a building set -back a specific distance from a shore -
line, which will minimize visual distractions from the natural
state and maximize safety of these areas.
4. Control shoreline cluttering of unsightly garbage, shacks or
docks.
In addition, a floodplain zoning ordinance has been adopted for Rum,
Mississippi, and Trott Rivers and areas of natural runoff. This will
enable natural wetlands to be preserved for storm drainage management,
for aesthetic enjoyment, and for recreational purposes. This will
aid in avoiding property damage and prevent soil erosion.
9
