Anoka County
ADMINISTRATION
Communications
December 4, 2024
Contact: Erik Thorson, Chief Communications Officer, 763-324-4612, or e-mail:
Erik. Thorson@anokacountvmn. 2ov
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anoka County Board Approves 2025 Property Tax Levy
The Anoka County Board of Commissioners approved a 16.86 percent property tax levy
increase at the board's Dec. 3 regular meeting.
The levy amount reflects a multi -year approach by the county to bring deficit spending
under control, with the goal being to have the levy at about a 5.25 percent increase annually by
2029. The 2025 budget and property tax levy is a collaborative effort to continue meeting Anoka
County's strategic priorities of transportation, human services, public safety, workforce and
communication. The focus for next year continues past work on those first three priorities, along
with an increased commitment to workforce and communication.
Anoka County, like households and businesses, continues to deal with the cost of inflation,
rising expenses for maintenance of its equipment and buildings, health care costs for employees,
and the expenditures associated with attracting top talent and keeping an engaged, productive
workforce.
"All of us appreciate the hard work county staff and commissioners have put into this
budget and levy, and we're now at a point where we're starting a multi -year approach to stabilize
the levy amount," said Mike Gamache, chair, Anoka County Board of Commissioners. "This levy
reflects our current circumstances and it's operational in nature it's to keep services at a level
our residents expect. We will continue to evaluate our budgets and levies in the coming years to
align with the needs of the county."
Note: Anoka County only has authority over the county portion of the property tax bill;
cities and school districts have their own taxing authority.
-30-
DK:bv
Respectful, Innovative, Fiscally Responsible
Government Center A 2100 3rd Avenue, Suite 700 A Anoka, MN 55303-5024 A www.anokacountymn.gov
Office: 763-324-4700 A Fax: 763-324-5490
Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
