..

"

e

.

CASE #:

APPOINT MEMBERS OF COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOCUS GROUPS

By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background:
Five community "visioning" meetings have been held since September 18. The next step in the
comprehensive planning process is for a focus group of 15 to 20 people representative of all
community planning interests to spend time discussing, in depth, the 10 to 12 most important
issues identified through the community meetings.

The consultants would like to schedule three meetings of the focus group. The first meeting will
be to clarify each issue so there is a common understanding of what the issue is. The second
meeting will be to identify alternative ways to address each issue. The third meeting will be to
develop recommendations about which alternatives should be included in the comprehensive
plan. The recommendations will be forwarded to the Planning and Zoning Commission, which
in turn will make a recommendation to the City Council.

Throughout the first five public meetings, the consultants and City staff have been compiling a
list of names of people who represent various community interests. Councilmembers have added
names and citizens have offered their names for consideration. That list is attached.

Weare asking that City Council formally appoint members of the focus group, contingent on
each appointee accepting the invitation. The nominees have not yet been invited, so we have no
idea whether or not the people identified will be able and willing to serve.

Council Action:
Appoint 15 to 20 members of the Comprehensive Plan Focus Group, contingent on acceptance of
the invitation to serve.

Reviewed By:

Copies also distributed to:

Acting City Administrator
Zoning Administrator

Fred Hoisington

CC 10/28/97

lindas\complan.97\focus2.cas
