The following is a bullet point list identifying a majority of the <br />issues that were discussed at the meeting with school district representatives: <br /> <br />. School districts need to know where growth is planned to occur in order to plan for future <br />facilities needs. <br />. 7-10% of Elk River Schools student population consists of Ramsey residents. (NW Quarter) <br />. New schools are sited depending on where growth is to occur. If growth is projected to occur <br />in another direction, then facilities plans must change to reflect that growth. <br />. Current growth impacting District 11 schools is coming from Andover and Ramsey. <br />. Ramsey students will eventually end up at the Anoka High School. Elementary students go <br />to Ramsey Elementary; however, the boundaries flex as the school fills, sending more or less <br />children to Anoka depending on their enrollments. Middle school students go to either Anoka <br />or the new facility in Andover. <br />. New facilities have been built in Andover and Ramsey Elementary has been expanded. <br />. Both districts are very large and complex crossing multiple municipal and county <br />jurisdictions and thus covering a large geographic area. (160 square miles in District 728, 170 <br />square miles in District 11) <br />. Anoka-Hennepin has a facility plan completed in the late 80's which goes to the year 2040. <br />The plan indicates that they can not afford a new high school. Anoka High is built for a <br />capacity of 3,000 students grades 9-12. <br />. There is a need for space at the High School facilities in Anoka-Hennepin. <br />. Elk River is looking at either building a new high school in the southern portion of the <br />district or building one large school to accommodate the entire district. <br />. Less revenues are received than average for metro area. The problem occurs in the operating <br />budget.
