,

..

.

e

{.

Fast forward to late 1996, and we are now thinking seriously about our retirement years, and no
one had shown any interest in purchasing the property for any commercial purpose. We were approached
by a very responsible land development firm to see if we would be receptive to developing for attractive,
single family homes. We agreed that this land use was appropriate and we signed an agreement.

Now it is 1997, and we attended several of the scheduled public hearings. We were astonished
to hear people say we should not be allowed to develop our land unless it was for a commercial
application. One individual (~35 years old) stated he wanted our land left undeveloped until his
grandchildren were of age to work at the commercial development. We also were told (City of Ramsey
stUdy) that the City has enough commercial land to stretch development of existing parcels to the year
20531

At the age of 65 and 67, we could not imagine why these people would pick on us as the focal
pOint of their determination to stop all residential development in Ramsey. Twenty-two years of leaving
the land undeveloped seemed to count for zero with some of our more vocal neighbors. A "moratorium"
was enacted on June 12th, 1997, extended in early January 1998, and near as we can tell, will hold in
place for the entire year of 1998. We both retired in 1997, and now wonder if we will live long enough to
be able to ever develop our land. To add insult to injury, our taxes were raised over 50% for 1998.

Thank you for agreeing to hear our side of this incredible sequence of events. Please consider
this letter our formal request to have our property rezoned to residential.

Sincerely,

~~
~&BOb~
2125 Argonne Dr.
Mpls.
