Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Shryock, Erickson,
Hanson and Lehman. Voting No: None. Absent: Olds.

COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1:

Review Park and Trail System

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated this was a good time to review the park
and trail system. He reviewed the history of some of the parks in Ramsey with the
Commission.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood indicated that one of the unique natural resources
within Ramsey is its two wild and scenic rivers. In addition, the built system includes
five community parks along with many smaller neighborhood parks. The trail system
is developing according to plans; and connects these spaces and the community. He
noted the City is looking at another community park in the north central area of
Ramsey.

Mr. Pearson stated there are a lot of wetlands and open space in Ramsey and the
critical thing is to get the plans on a map and stick to them.

Commissioner Erickson thought safety was a factor in developing trails in the City.

Commissioner Shryock stated they needed to work with Burns Township on
connections to their trails. She noticed staff put up dog station bags along the trails,
which is a nice feature.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated trails embody community development and
encourage socialization.

Civil Engineer II Linton stated the best time to put trails in an area is when looking at
preliminary plats.

Commissioner Erickson asked if in the future there were plans to put mileage markers
on trails.

Park and Recreation Commission/August 10, 2006
Page 2 of 4
