All sample sites were approached from <br />downstream. The net was placed touching the substrate with the opening facing <br />upstream. The net was held perpendicular to the flow and held there for approximately 3 <br />minutes. <br /> <br />As well, the substrate was scraped with the net multiple times at each site. <br />Contents of the net were emptied into an enamel pan for sorting, recording of <br />observations and selecting benthic macro invertebrates. The macro invertebrates were <br />stored in an ethanol/water mixture until further examination was possible in the lab. <br />These sampling methods are common procedures used when gathering benthic <br />macroinvertebrates for water quality determinations (Mitchell and Stapp 1990). <br /> <br />Table 3.
