Peak flood elevations are between 895-900 feet approximately 9
miles upstream and decrease downstream. Although this data is perhaps most relevant to
residential development and associated insurance determinations, the flood water surface
elevations are useful in any development. This data reveals potential flooding elevations
which could wash out and/or wear on trails, educational interpretive signs or other
facilities built as part of a trail system along Trott Brook.

Watershed Characteristics

Land use within the Trott Brook watershed is relevant to the continued ecological
health of the Brook as anthropogenic disturbances to the watershed accompany most
types of land use and can thus impact the brook. Within Sherburne County, the land
surrounding Trott Brook is zoned as a general rural zone (Brown, 1996). The permitted
uses include: public parks and open spaces, single family homes, and agriculture
(Brown, 1996). The area is experiencing significant residential development pressure
(Brown, 1996). Within Anoka County, land use can be determined more specifically
because of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology available within the
county. As Table 4 documents, the GIS data indicates that the majority of land
surrounding Trott Brook within Anoka County is used for single family residential
development. Other uses include agriculture, commercial, industrial and utilities (Anoka
County, 1996).

Table 4.
