<br />11 <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />PREFACE <br /> <br />This study was conducted by students in the University of Minnesota class <br />entitled Problem Solving in the Environmental Sciences (Soils 5100). <br /> <br />The project involves a proposed recreational trail system in the City of Ramsey; <br />specifically the portion of the existing and proposed trails in the Trott Brook Park <br />District. The research was conducted in September, October and November, 1996. <br /> <br />The purpose of the study is to provide the City of Ramsey with more information <br />to aid in potential trail development in the Trott Brook Park District. <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey is located in the northwest comer of Anoka County, <br />Minnesota, in the northern portion of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. The City is <br />divided into Park Districts; this project involves the Trott Brook District. The Trott <br />Brook is a tributary of the Rum River. <br /> <br />The study involves an analysis of the historical context, public opinion regarding <br />trail systems, aquatic and terrestrial ecology, terrestrial ecology, watershed <br />characteristics, educational value of trails, and potential trail development and <br />maintenance options. <br /> <br />This volume of the report discusses the following topics: public opinion, aquatic <br />ecology, watershed and hydrologic characteristics, and trail maintenance options and <br />costs. <br />
