<br />are also available for pedestrian traffic. All pier connections have slotted bolt holes for <br />expansion and contraction. The pedestrian capacity system uses wood beams. For maximum <br />stability, the boardwalk must be constructed lower than thirty inches above the soil surface. The <br />cost of the lightweight pedestrian Helical Pier System is approximately $30 per square foot. The <br />Helical Pier Shaft is pictured in Figure 1. <br />The Helical Pier System can be used to span distances that are less than eight feet and <br />straight. Longer and more complex crossings require the construction of a bridge with concrete <br />abutments at each side. For bridges less than fifty feet in length the average cost is $75 per <br />square foot.
