The rate of application depends on the density of the trail-side <br />vegetation. <br /> <br />Retaining Walls <br />Where trail construction cuts into hillslopes, retaining walls may need to be built. Any <br />wall construction necessary within the upland area should use uniform material throughout the <br />corridor. A natural and appropriate texture should be selected, such as field boulders. Field <br />boulders look natural and are appealing in a woodland environment. This trail system has the potential to be used asa valuable educational tool for the <br />citizens of Ramsey and other Anoka County residents. Access to a natural area provides students <br />with the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning and problem-solving in an outdoor <br />environment as well as a sense of ownership in their education. <br />Students can use a natural area to study and observe interactions between wildlife and <br />their habitats. Studies such as these can be successful if the concepts of an environmental <br />learning center are adopted. An environmental learning center provides many opportunities for <br />students of all education levels. Elementary students may use the area for leaf collections or <br />basic wildlife identification. Whereas post-secondary level students may conduct research on <br />sustainable management of the area.
