Despite transportation difficulties, Mike Metzmaker of Fred Moore Middle School said that his
Life Science and Earth Science classes could use the trail at least once a year. Another deterrent
to the support of a trail system from the schools' perspective is that some of the schools already
have a natural area that they use. Anoka High School utilizes an oxbow near the Rum River for
classes. Instructor Scott Birch teaches his ninth grade Outdoor Adventures class near the oxbow
and would not have a use for the Trott Brook Corridor. Ramsey Elementary school has a trail
system and nature area behind their school. First grade instructor Patti Hill felt their school
already has difficulties using the nature area they have on their grounds, therefore the use of Trott
Brook would not be to their advantage. Although these schools have a natural area that they use,
they still thought that the Trott Brook Environmental Learning Center is worthwhile. The
Anoka-Hennepin schools contacted are listed in Appendix VI and Map 5.

22

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
