The chief limitations to this soil are the low <br />water capacity and the resulting hazards of soil blowing and droughtiness. <br /> <br />Isan Series <br />The Isan series consists of nearly level, very poorly drained soils formed in outwash <br />sands. These soils are found in depressions and drainageways and on low flats of outwash <br />plains. <br />A representative profile has a surface layer that is black sandy loam in the upper 11 <br />inches and very dark gray loamy sand in the lower 13 inches. The subsoil is mottled, dark gray <br />loose sand about six inches thick. The underlying material is gray coarse sand. <br />Permeability is rapid and the available water capacity is low. The organic matter content <br />is high. The available nitrogen and phosphorus are medium and potassium is low. <br />The major limitation of these soils is the hazard of wetness. Some areas can be cropped <br />or pastured if drained. <br /> <br />Markey Muck <br />The Markey series consists of nearly level very poorly drained soils formed in organic <br />soil material overlying sands. These soils are in small bogs and along the edge of larger bogs in <br />the sandy outwash plains. <br />In a representative profile the surface layer is black muck about 10 inches thick. The <br />subsurface layers are black or very dark brown muck. The upper five inches of the underlying <br />material is very dark gray fine sandy loam and the rest is grayish-brown and gray sand and fine <br />sand. <br />Permeability is moderately rapid and the available water capacity is high. The organic <br />matter content is very high. The available nitrogen is high and the phosphorus and potassium are <br />low. <br />Most areas of Markey soils are in native vegetation. The limitations are the hazards of <br />wetness, ponding, and unseasonable frost. <br /> <br />Nymore Series <br />The Nymore series consists of nearly level to steep excessively drained soils formed in <br />outwash sands. These soils are on broad smooth flats and narrow hillsides adjacent to <br />drainageways and large depressions in sandy outwash plains. <br />A representative profile has a surface layer that is very dark gray and very dark grayish- <br />brown loamy sand about seven inches thick. The subsoil is dark brown loose loamy sand about <br />19 inches thick. The underlying material is yellowish-brown sand. <br />The permeability is rapid and the available water capacity is low. The organic matter <br />content is low. The supply of available nitrogen and potassium are low and phosphorus medium. <br />The water table is generally at a depth of more than six feet. <br />Most areas that have Nymore soils are developed.
