® Creative, original public art works stand
out on a scale that is out of the ordinary, sparking conversation and challenging perceptions.
Toronto is already home to a globally-significant collection of such works by both local and
international artists, and a continued emphasis on supporting artistic experimentation will
reinforce the city's global creative leadership.
Building on Toronto's creative strengths, the actions outlined below endeavour to support a
broader range of public art projects, including media art, temporary and ephemeral art,
and performance art, among others, and using a wide variety of commissioning practices,
including community-engaged art practices and co-creation. This new emphasis on creativity
and experimentation will lead to a diversification of the public art found across Toronto,
complementing permanent, sculptural works with other challenging, unexpected pieces.
