6. 3. <br /> CC Regular Session <br /> Meeting Date: 02/25/2025 <br /> Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Strive for high organizational morale and employee retention <br /> Title: <br /> Authorization to Hire a Full-time Fire Inspector/Firefighter. <br /> Purpose/Background: <br /> The purpose of this case is for the City Council to authorize hiring a full-time Fire Inspector/Firefighter. <br /> This position is included in the 2025 budget and was originally planned to begin in July;however, due to staffing <br /> shortages,this position was discussed at the February 11, 2025, City Council work session. The City Council <br /> agreed by consensus to allow staff to recruit for the position now in order to help mitigate the situation. Two <br /> internal candidates were interviewed and staff are recommending Mr. Adam Gordon for the position. Mr. Gordon <br /> has been with the City's Fire Department since January 2002 and has held many roles, including Fire Lieutenant, <br /> many committees, safety camp and Firefighter of the year in 2018. He also has over 10 years of very similar <br /> inspection experience through his current full-time employer, as well as two years' experience as a temporary fire <br /> inspector for the City of Ramsey. Mr. Gordon's past work experience will be an asset to the City. Mr. Gordon <br /> will be subject to a 1-year probationary period and the City's Personnel Policy. <br /> The duties of this position include,but are not limited to the following: <br /> •Responds to emergencies (medical, non-medical, and fires) <br /> •Inspects structures for compliance with fire codes <br /> •Meets with the public and business owners about compliance issues <br /> •Generates business preplans <br /> •Assists Fire Marshal with policy development and state fire code issues <br /> •Conducts and reports on fire education awareness in the community <br /> •Performs a wide range of tasks directed by Fire Marshal or Fire Chief <br /> The Fire Inspector/Firefighter position is a non-exempt,non-union position. <br /> Funding Source: <br /> The funding for this position is included in the 2025 budget. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> To hire Mr. Adam Gordon as a full-time Fire Inspector/Firefighter, effective on or near March 24, 2025, at <br /> $38.435 per hour,which is step 4 of the 2025 wage scale. <br /> Outcome/Action: <br /> Motion to authorize hiring Mr. Adam Gordon as a full-time Fire Inspector/Firefighter, effective on or near March <br /> 24, 2025, at$3 8.43 5 per hour,which is step 4 of the 2025 wage scale. <br /> Attachments <br /> No files) attached. <br /> Form Review <br /> Inbox Reviewed By Date <br />
